Topic:
Write a first-person narrative (300 words max) about a moment where weather or a natural setting feels deeply personal to the narrator—almost as if it understands them. It could be a storm mirroring their emotions, a quiet sunrise bringing clarity, or rain that feels like a conversation. Focus on vivid sensory details and emotional connection rather than plot. Let the environment reflect something internal. By the end, the narrator should walk away changed, whether they understand the message or not.
Submission:
Surprisingly, what struck me most was breathing again; the wind from the Adriatic Sea. Where I work, far to the North, the air feels different, burdened, louder. So long have I been away that I forgot the breeze, and the clouds, and the very texture of the sky. The sea does never end, I know there is something on the other side but, as hard as I try, I fail to find it. Only now do I notice how particular the wind can be, is every wind so distinct? Everything else changed, god have I changed, I was but a fool back then. Yet, in this breath, I felt home for the first time, and that was enough for me to rejoice. I wish I could stop for more, but I have duties to carry, and I shall continue my journey back to the North. Looking west, the hills extend toward the horizon where little houses scatter like stones. Most of the space is covered in farms, and everything is so peaceful. They are bringing electricity even to these places now, the world is changing so fast. Were these hills here all the time? Perhaps one day, after the war, I will come back and take good care of this place, and of myself.
